September 26, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Virginia Beach, in effect until 2:00 PM EDT on Sunday, September 27. The warning is accompanied by a High Surf Advisory and a Beach Hazards Statement due to significant inundation and rough surf conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, the Coastal Flood Warning began on September 26 at 6:09 AM EDT. Low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways are forecast to experience two to three feet of inundation above ground level. This widespread flooding is expected to threaten waterfront homes and businesses, close numerous roads, and flood vehicles as water extends inland along tidal rivers and bays.

Simultaneously, a High Surf Advisory is active until 7:00 AM EDT on Sunday, with large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet expected in the surf zone. A Beach Hazards Statement is also in effect through Sunday evening, warning of a high risk of dangerous rip currents along the coast.

In response to these conditions, officials advise taking immediate actions to protect flood-prone property. Swimmers and inexperienced beachgoers are instructed to stay out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.

⚠️ Safety
• Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
