A Coastal Flood Warning has been issued for the Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches, remaining in effect until 3:00 PM PDT on October 11, 2026.
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, CA, issued the Coastal Flood Warning starting October 10 at 1:57 AM PDT. Vulnerable south-facing beaches, particularly Long Beach and Malibu, face likely damaging sea-water flooding, while minor coastal flooding is expected for all other beaches and harbors. Additionally, high surf of 5 to 8 feet and strong rip currents are anticipated.
Impacts include potential damage to beach roads and structures from sea-water flooding, especially around high tide, and shallow or minor flooding impacting walkways and beaches. Significant erosion is expected across all beach areas, alongside an increased risk of ocean drowning due to rip currents that can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves may also cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
Sunday carries the widest range of coastal flood outcomes due to potential rain, wind, low pressure tidal enhancements, and swells from multiple directions. High tides of 7.3 to 7.6 feet will be common each morning. The warning may be extended past Sunday or converted to a Coastal Flood Advisory through Tuesday, with a High Surf Advisory also scheduled from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM PDT Sunday.
