Coastal Flood Warning Issued for New Jersey Shore Areas
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning alongside high surf and rip current advisories for parts of New Jersey. The alerts remain in effect through the week.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, has issued a Coastal Flood Warning effective from 4 PM Wednesday to 1 AM EDT Friday. The affected areas include Atlantic Coastal Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, and Coastal Ocean.
Forecasters expect one to two feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways under the warning. Additionally, a High Surf Advisory brings expectations of large breaking waves of 6 to 12 feet in the surf zone, while a High Rip Current Risk remains in place through Friday afternoon.
Impacts at this level include widespread roadway flooding in coastal and bayside communities, as well as along inland tidal waterways. Many roads will become impassable, and vulnerable structures may sustain some damage. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, along with significant beach erosion, are also expected.
Moderate tidal flooding could continue through Friday or longer, with significant beach erosion likely to persist through the week and into the weekend.
