Coastal Flood Warning Issued for Northeast Florida Beaches

October 26, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida, has issued a Coastal Flood Warning in effect until Thursday at 2:00 AM EDT for coastal areas in northeast Florida. A High Surf Advisory and a High Rip Current Risk are also active for the region.

The affected areas include Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, and both Northeast and Southeast Coastal St. Johns. The Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 2:00 AM EDT on Thursday, October 29. A High Surf Advisory continues until 8:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, and a High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Wednesday night.

Moderate to possibly major flooding is expected around times of high tide. Low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, will be inundated. Additionally, numerous road closures and shoreline erosion are anticipated across the coastal areas.

Marine conditions are hazardous, with large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet causing dangerous swimming and surfing conditions along with localized beach erosion. Dangerous rip currents pose a severe risk and can sweep even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper water.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Take necessary precautions to protect flood-prone property.
• Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
• Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to high surf.
• If caught in a rip current, relax, float, and swim parallel to the shoreline rather than against the current.
