Coastal Flood Warning Issued for San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas

October 10, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Coastal Flood Warning and related advisories affecting coastal regions in San Diego and Orange counties.

The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Warning on October 9 at 8:27 PM PDT, remaining in effect until 3:00 PM PDT on October 11, 2026. Significant coastal flooding and erosion are possible through Sunday afternoon.

A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from Sunday morning until Sunday evening, bringing surf of 5 to 7 feet with local sets up to 9 feet. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is scheduled from Sunday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon, during which minor coastal flooding is expected.

Affected locations include the San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas. The greatest impacts are expected on Sunday morning due to Tropical Storm Rachel, combining increased swell, onshore winds, and high tides locally exceeding 7 feet.

Impacts from the event include numerous road and walking path closures due to high water. Low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, may flood. Shoreline erosion will occur during morning high tides, and increased surf will create a high risk of rip currents.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
• Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth if travel is required.
• Avoid beaches during high tides and remain out of the water.
• Stay off sea walls and jetties.
