The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Coastal Flood Warning alongside subsequent advisories and statements affecting coastal regions in San Diego and Orange counties through Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Warning on October 10 at 2:03 AM PDT, which remains in effect until 3:00 PM PDT on Sunday, October 11. Significant coastal flooding and erosion are likely during this warning period. Greates impacts are expected on Sunday morning due to Tropical Storm Rachel, combining increased swell, onshore winds, and local high tides over 7 feet.
Following the warning, a Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from Sunday morning until Sunday evening, bringing surf of 5 to 7 feet with local sets up to 9 feet. This elevated surf will lead to a high risk of rip currents along the affected coastlines.
Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been scheduled from Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM until Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM PDT, during which minor coastal flooding is expected to occur.
Impacts from these weather events include potential closures of numerous roads and walking paths due to high water. Low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure, may flood. Furthermore, shoreline erosion will take place during morning high tides.
