The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Coastal Flood Warning alongside related advisories, forecasting significant coastal flooding, beach erosion, and elevated surf driven by Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel.
The Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 3:00 PM PDT on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Significant coastal flooding and beach erosion are likely during this period, with the greatest impacts expected on Sunday morning due to a combination of increased swell, onshore winds, and high tides locally exceeding 7.5 feet.
Following the warning, a Beach Hazards Statement will be in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, bringing surf of 5 to 7 feet with local sets up to 9 feet. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is scheduled from Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM until Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM PDT, during which minor coastal flooding is expected as high tides gradually lower into the middle of the week.
Affected locations include the coastal areas of San Diego County and Orange County. Impacts may include the closure of numerous roads and beach boardwalks due to high water.
Low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and some critical infrastructure, may flood during morning high tides. Furthermore, elevated surf will create a high risk of rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions.
