The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, has issued a Coastal Flood Warning, High Surf Advisory, and Beach Hazards Statement for Virginia Beach, effective from September 25 through September 26, 2026.
The National Weather Service issued the alerts starting at 2:38 AM EDT on September 25. The Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11:00 AM EDT on Saturday, September 26. Additionally, a High Surf Advisory is active until 7:00 PM EDT on Friday, and a Beach Hazards Statement continues through Friday evening.
The event brings two to three feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas is expected to create an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline.
The flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays, resulting in numerous road closures and flooded vehicles. Water depths will be sufficient to close roads and threaten structures.
In the surf zone, large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are anticipated alongside a high risk of rip currents.
