Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Coastal and Inland Southern California
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for portions of Southern California, with temperatures expected to reach up to 102 degrees through Friday evening.
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, California, issued an Extreme Heat Warning at 12:02 AM PDT on August 25. The warning takes effect at 10:00 AM PDT on August 25 and remains in place until 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, August 28. A Heat Advisory precedes the warning until 10:00 AM PDT on August 25.
Under the Heat Advisory, temperatures up to 95 degrees are expected. As the Extreme Heat Warning takes effect, dangerously hot conditions will bring temperatures reaching up to 102 degrees across the impacted areas.
The impacted locations include Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Los Angeles County Beaches, the Malibu Coast, Palos Verdes Hills, and the Los Angeles County Inland Coast including Downtown Los Angeles. The warning also covers the Santa Barbara County Southeastern and Southwestern Coasts, as well as Ventura County Beaches and Inland Coast.
According to the weather agency, heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. The prolonged elevated temperatures create conditions that may cause heat illnesses for those in affected areas.
