Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Parts of Nevada, California, and Arizona
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for portions of southern Nevada, southeast California, and northwest Arizona. The warning remains in effect until 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, August 28.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas, Nevada, issued the warning at 2:49 AM PDT on August 26. Dangerously hot conditions are expected across the region through the work week, with overnight lows in desert valleys remaining elevated in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Temperatures are forecast to reach between 115 and 118 degrees Fahrenheit across Death Valley and the Colorado River Valley. Highs between 108 and 112 degrees are anticipated in the Moapa Valley, Las Vegas Valley, Pahrump Valley, and Morongo Valley, while the Hualapai Mountains will experience temperatures between 90 and 95 degrees.
The affected areas include Lake Havasu, Fort Mohave, the Arizona sides of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, the Hualapai Mountains, the Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, the Western and Eastern Mojave Desert including the Mojave National Preserve, Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, and the San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley.
Officials note that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Residents and workers in the affected regions are encouraged to keep updated on the latest forecasts and follow standard heat safety guidelines.
