Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Phoenix Metropolitan Area
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Phoenix metropolitan area from 10:00 AM Tuesday to 8:00 PM MST Thursday. Afternoon temperatures are forecasted to reach between 105 and 109 degrees.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Phoenix, Arizona, issued the alert at 12:33 AM MST on September 7. Major heat risk conditions are expected during the warning period, which runs from 10:00 AM Tuesday until 8:00 PM MST Thursday.
The warning covers locations throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Deer Valley, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, Cave Creek/New River, Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek.
Health officials warn that extreme heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. Prolonged exposure can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which can escalate to heat stroke without intervention.
In Maricopa County, residents can call 2-1-1 to find assistance, including free cooling centers, transportation, and water availability.
