The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Phoenix metropolitan area from Tuesday morning through Thursday evening. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 105 and 109 degrees, creating a major heat risk.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ issued the Extreme Heat Warning on September 7 at 8:39 AM PDT. The alert becomes effective at 10:00 AM MST on Tuesday, September 8, and remains in place until 8:00 PM MST on Thursday, September 10.
Coverage spans the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures reaching 105 to 109 degrees.
Health officials note that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Overexposure can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which can develop into heat stroke if left untreated. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location immediately.
