The warning covers extensive portions of the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek.
Forecasted afternoon temperatures of 106 to 116 degrees significantly increase the likelihood of heat-related illnesses. Specific health risks identified by officials include heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Officials warn that heat stroke is a medical emergency that can result in death.
