The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for multiple areas in California, bringing dangerously hot conditions expected to last into the second week of October.
The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA issued the Extreme Heat Warning on October 1 at 12:17 PM PDT. The warning remains in effect from 10:00 AM Friday until 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8.
The affected regions include the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 85 degrees at the coast and up to 100 degrees in the mountains and Cuyama Valley. Authorities note that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during such extreme heat events.
Very hot temperatures are likely to continue into the second week of October, which could potentially require an extension of the current weather warning product.
