Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Portions of Southern California
The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for several desert and pass regions, remaining in effect until 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, August 28.
The National Weather Service issued the warning at 3:20 AM PDT on August 26. The affected locations include the Coachella Valley, San Diego County Deserts, and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
Dangerously hot conditions are forecast for the area, with high temperatures expected between 112 and 118 degrees. Overnight low temperatures will remain elevated, mostly ranging from the mid 80s to mid 90s.
Weather officials noted that overnight temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees above normal, which will limit relief from the extreme heat during the nighttime hours.
The National Weather Service warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.
