Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Southwest Deserts Until July 27
The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada. This warning is in effect from Thursday, July 23, at 10 AM PDT/MST until Monday, July 27, at 8 PM PDT/MST.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected across the warned area. Afternoon temperatures in the desert valleys are forecast to climb into the 108 to 114 degree range. Temperatures may exceed 115 degrees along the Colorado River Valley and reach 120 degrees in Death Valley. Overnight lows are generally expected to range from 80 to 95 degrees.
The Extreme Heat Warning covers portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada, including the Greater Mojave Desert region. Specific areas include Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead and Mohave on the Arizona side, Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, and the Western and Eastern Mojave Deserts, including the Mojave National Preserve. Other affected locations are Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, and Northeast Clark.
Heat related illnesses are expected to increase significantly during this extreme heat event. Residents and visitors in the affected regions are advised to be aware of the serious health risks posed by the high temperatures.
