Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Southwest US Region
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by NWS Las Vegas NV for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada. Dangerously hot conditions with afternoon temperatures exceeding 108 degrees Fahrenheit are expected to begin Thursday morning and last through Monday evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV issued an Extreme Heat Warning on July 22 at 4:35 AM PDT. This warning is in effect from Thursday, July 23 at 10 AM PDT /10 AM MST/, until Monday, July 27 at 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected during this period. Afternoon temperatures in the desert valleys are forecast to climb into the 108 to 114 degree Fahrenheit range. Temperatures may exceed 115 degrees Fahrenheit along the Colorado River Valley and 120 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley. Overnight lows are generally expected to range from 80 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
The warning applies to portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada, encompassing the Greater Mojave Desert region. Affected areas include Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead - AZ side, Lake Mohave - AZ side, Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, Western Mojave Desert, Eastern Mojave Desert including the Mojave National Preserve, Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, and Northeast Clark.
Heat-related illnesses are expected to increase significantly during this extreme heat event.
