Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Southwest US Region Through August 2
The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and south central and southern Nevada. Dangerously hot conditions, with highs reaching 110 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit, are expected from Thursday, July 30, through Sunday, August 2, 2026.
The warning, issued by NWS Las Vegas NV on July 28 at 1:00 AM PDT, is in effect from Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10 AM PDT / MST until Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 8 PM PDT / MST. Affected areas include portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and south central and southern Nevada. Specific locations within these regions include the Northwest Plateau, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead - AZ side, Lake Mohave - AZ side, Hualapai Mountains, Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, Western Mojave Desert, Eastern Mojave Desert (including the Mojave National Preserve), Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, and San Bernardino County-Upper.
Dangerously hot conditions are forecast, with highs of 110 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit across the Mojave Desert. Most of the southern Great Basin and Arizona Strip can expect highs of 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Little to no overnight relief is anticipated, especially in the Mojave Desert, where lows of 80 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit are forecast. This prolonged heat is expected to result in a major to extreme heat risk.
Heat-related illnesses are expected to increase significantly during this extreme heat event.
