Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Phoenix Area

June 22, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for parts of Maricopa County. Dangerously hot conditions, with afternoon temperatures possibly reaching 110 to 114 degrees, are anticipated from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening.

An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for areas including Buckeye/Avondale, Central Phoenix, Deer Valley, East Valley, North Phoenix/Glendale, Northwest Valley, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek. The watch indicates that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, may occur.

Forecasts indicate afternoon temperatures between 110 to 114 degrees are possible. These conditions present a localized Major Heat Risk to the affected communities.

During extreme heat events, heat-related illnesses can increase significantly. Overexposure to these temperatures can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Without intervention, these conditions may progress to heat stroke.

Residents in Maricopa County seeking assistance can call 2-1-1 to locate free cooling centers, transportation, water, and other resources. Additional information is available at http://www.maricopa.gov/heat.
