An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for areas including Buckeye/Avondale, Central Phoenix, Deer Valley, East Valley, North Phoenix/Glendale, Northwest Valley, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek. The watch indicates that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, may occur.
Forecasts indicate afternoon temperatures between 110 to 114 degrees are possible. These conditions present a localized Major Heat Risk to the affected communities.
During extreme heat events, heat-related illnesses can increase significantly. Overexposure to these temperatures can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Without intervention, these conditions may progress to heat stroke.
