Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Phoenix Metropolitan Area
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Phoenix metropolitan area, effective from Monday morning through Wednesday evening. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 108 and 112 degrees.
The alert was issued on August 13 at 11:23 AM MST and covers multiple locations across the region, including the Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek. The watch is set to remain active until August 19 at 8:00 PM MST.
Forecasters warn of a Major Heat Risk due to the dangerously hot conditions. Officials note that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events, where overexposure can cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion that may escalate to heat stroke if untreated.
To help residents manage the conditions, Maricopa County provides access to free cooling centers, transportation, and water through the 2-1-1 phone service or online at maricopa.gov/heat. Additional public cooling shelters are also available in certain areas.
