Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Phoenix Metropolitan Area
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the Phoenix metropolitan area from Monday morning through Friday evening. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach between 109 and 113 degrees.
The watch was issued on August 14 at 11:50 PM MST and remains in effect from Monday morning, August 17, until Friday, August 21, at 8:00 PM MST. The affected areas include Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek.
Forecasted conditions indicate a Major Heat Risk, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 109 to 113 degrees and overnight lows remaining elevated between 88 and 92 degrees. Overexposure to these conditions significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, which can progress from heat cramps and heat exhaustion to heat stroke.
