Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Portions of California
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for multiple areas in California, bringing dangerously hot conditions starting Friday morning through October 8.
The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA issued the Extreme Heat Watch on September 30 at 9:46 AM PDT. The watch remains in effect until October 8 at 8:00 PM PDT, with conditions beginning Friday morning.
Affected areas include the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 85 degrees at the coast and up to 100 degrees in the mountains and Cuyama Valley. Authorities note that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events.
Very hot temperatures are likely to continue into the second week of October, which may require an extension of the current weather watch.
