Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Portions of Nevada, California, and Arizona
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for parts of southern Nevada, southeast California, and northwest Arizona, effective from Tuesday morning through Friday evening.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV issued the watch on August 16 at 10:45 AM PDT. The alert covers a period beginning Tuesday morning, August 18, and ending at 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, August 21.
Dangerously hot conditions are forecast across the region. High temperatures between 115 and 118 degrees are expected in Death Valley and the Lower Colorado River Valley, while other areas under the watch can expect highs ranging from 107 to 110 degrees.
The affected area encompasses Death Valley National Park, the Eastern Mojave Desert (including the Mojave National Preserve), Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, Northeast Clark County, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, the Arizona side of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, the Hualapai Mountains, and the Northwest Deserts.
According to NWS officials, extreme heat events bring a significantly increased risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for further updates.
