Extreme Heat Watch Issued for South Central Arizona Through Monday Evening

The Extreme Heat Watch, issued by NWS Phoenix AZ on July 21 at 1:24 AM MST, covers south central Arizona, including the Phoenix metro area. Affected regions include Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek. Dangerously hot conditions are possible from Thursday morning, July 23, through Monday evening, July 27.
During this period, afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach between 110 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit, indicating a Major Heat Risk. An Extreme Heat Watch signifies that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, may occur.
The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Overexposure can lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which can progress to heat stroke without intervention. Residents are urged to take extra precautions and lessen the impact of the extreme heat.
