Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Southwest US

An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued by the NWS Las Vegas NV for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada. Dangerously hot conditions are possible from Thursday morning, July 23, through Monday evening, July 27.

The Extreme Heat Watch indicates dangerously hot conditions are possible across the affected regions. Afternoon temperatures in the desert valleys are forecast to climb into the 108 to 114 degree range. Temperatures may exceed 115 degrees Fahrenheit along the Colorado River Valley and could reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley.

The alert covers areas including Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead and Lake Mohave on the Arizona side, the Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, and the Western and Eastern Mojave Deserts, including the Mojave National Preserve. Other affected locations include the Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, and Northeast Clark in the Greater Mojave Desert region.

This watch is in effect from Thursday morning, July 23, through Monday evening, July 27, 2026.

During extreme heat events, heat-related illnesses are expected to increase significantly.
