Fire Weather Watch Issued for Portions of Arizona, California, and Nevada

The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas has issued a Fire Weather Watch for parts of Arizona, California, and Nevada. This watch is active from Friday morning, June 26, through Saturday evening, June 27.

The NWS Las Vegas issued this Fire Weather Watch on June 24 at 12:32 AM PDT. It is set to begin on Friday morning, June 26, at 11:00 AM PDT and will remain in effect until 11:00 PM PDT on Saturday, June 27.

The affected areas include Lake Mead NRA/Colorado River-AZ side, Northwest Deserts/Northwest Plateau, Death Valley National Park, Lower Colorado River Valley, Esmeralda and Nye County Deserts/CNC Dispatch, Lincoln County/Ely Dispatch, Nye County Deserts/Las Vegas Dispatch, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains, and Clark and SW Lincoln Counties. Specifically, this includes fire weather zones 101 and 102 in Arizona, zones 227 and 229 in California, and zones 460, 461, 462, 463, 464, 465, and 466 in Nevada.

Southwest winds are forecast to be 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. Humidity levels are expected to range between 5 and 15 percent.

These conditions create an environment where any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period.
