Fire Weather Watch Issued for Southern and Central Nevada
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Fire Weather Watch for multiple regions in southern and central Nevada, effective from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. High winds and low humidity levels are expected to create conditions that could lead to the rapid spread of fires.
The watch, issued on September 10 at 7:14 PM PDT, is scheduled to run from the morning of Saturday, September 12, until 12:00 AM PDT on Sunday, September 13. The warning covers Nevada Fire Weather Zones 460, 462, 463, 464, and 465, which include the Sheep Range, Spring Mountains, Esmeralda and Nye County Deserts, and the Clark and SW Lincoln County Deserts.
Weather conditions in the affected zones are forecast to include south winds of 15 to 25 mph, with wind gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Additionally, relative humidity levels are projected to fall between 5 and 20 percent.
Due to these dry and windy conditions, any fires that develop will spread rapidly. The National Weather Service advises that outdoor burning is not recommended and requests that appropriate officials and field fire crews be informed of the watch.
