Flood Warning Issued for Duval and St. Johns Counties

October 7, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 1 min read

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a high-severity Flood Warning for parts of Duval and St. Johns counties until 8:15 AM EDT.

Excessive rainfall from thunderstorms has caused flooding in southeastern Duval County and north-central St. Johns County in northeastern Florida. Between 3 and 7 inches of rain have fallen, with up to 2 additional inches possible in the warned area.

Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from heavy rainfall over the last 12 hours, leading to areas of slow-moving or standing water.

Local drainage systems in urban areas will take several hours to clear the water from the storms. Affected locations include Jacksonville, UNF, Arlington, Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Baymeadows, and Craig Field.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
• Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
