Flood Watch Issued for Parts of Illinois and Indiana
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Illinois and Indiana due to the potential for excessive rainfall and flash flooding.
The National Weather Service issued the Flood Watch on September 19 at 3:39 AM CDT, remaining in effect until 1:00 PM CDT this afternoon. The alert covers areas in Illinois including Central Cook, De Kalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake IL, Lee, Northern Cook, Northern Will, and Southern Cook, as well as Lake IN and Porter in northwest Indiana.
According to forecasters, showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rain this morning, leading to possible localized flash flooding. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks, and flooding may occur in poor drainage, urban areas, roads, and streets.
Additional showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain and localized flash flooding are possible tonight, which may necessitate another flood watch. A Flood Watch indicates that rapid-onset flooding is possible based on current forecasts, though not yet certain.
