Flood Watch Issued for Parts of South-Central Arizona Through August 31
The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Flood Watch for portions of south-central Arizona, active until August 31 at 5:00 AM MST. While initial rainfall is tapering off, an additional round of heavy storms is expected Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the first round of rainfall is wrapping up across the region. Only isolated showers or weak storms remain possible through Sunday morning, and flooding is no longer expected to pose an immediate threat overnight.
A second round of showers and thunderstorms is forecast to arrive Sunday evening and continue into early Sunday night. Heavy rainfall and localized flooding will be possible during this timeframe, with the highest potential across Maricopa and Pinal Counties.
The alert covers multiple areas across south-central Arizona, including Aguila Valley, Northwest Valley, Tonopah Desert, Buckeye, Avondale, Cave Creek, New River, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix, Glendale, New River Mesa, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Rio Verde, Salt River, East Valley, Fountain Hills, East Mesa, South Mountain, Ahwatukee, Southeast Valley, Queen Creek, Mazatzal Mountains, and Tonto Basin.
While the Flood Watch was cancelled for a portion of south-central Arizona for overnight conditions, weather officials advise that renewed storm activity Sunday evening warrants continued caution, particularly regarding lingering road hazards.
