Flood Watch Issued for Parts of Southeast Texas Due to Tropical Storm Edouard
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of southeast Texas effective from September 1 at 4:14 AM CDT through September 2 at 7:00 AM CDT. Heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Edouard could lead to localized flooding across the region.
The Flood Watch was issued by NWS Houston/Galveston TX and covers Walker, San Jacinto, Polk, Montgomery, Northern Liberty, Inland Harris, Chambers, Fort Bend, Inland Brazoria, Inland Galveston, Southern Liberty, Coastal Harris, Coastal Brazoria, Coastal Galveston, Brazoria Islands, Galveston Island, and Bolivar Peninsula.
Periods of moderate to heavy rain tied to Tropical Storm Edouard are expected to start Tuesday morning and persist into the night. Total rainfall accumulations could reach 6 to 9 inches or higher in localized spots. Peak rainfall rates may reach 3 to 4 inches per hour during the heaviest downpours, raising the potential for flash flooding.
Excessive runoff from the storm is expected to cause rising water levels in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations. Poor drainage areas and urban environments face an increased risk of flooding.
Weather officials advise residents across the affected areas to pay close attention to updating forecasts and remain prepared to act if conditions deteriorate.
