The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Southwest California from Saturday evening through Sunday evening as Tropical Storm Rachel approaches.
The National Weather Service San Diego CA issued the Flood Watch on October 10 at 2:49 AM PDT. The watch is active from Saturday evening through October 11 at 8:00 PM PDT across multiple regions in Southwest California.
Affected areas include the San Diego County Coastal Areas, San Diego County Inland Valleys, San Diego County Mountains, San Diego County Deserts, Riverside County Mountains, San Bernardino County Mountains, Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Coachella Valley, and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
Tropical Storm Rachel is expected to bring periods of moderate to heavy rain across the region, with the heaviest rainfall most likely occurring late Saturday night through Sunday afternoon. Maximum hourly rainfall rates are forecasted at 0.50 to 0.60 inches for the San Diego Coast and Valleys, 0.50 to 0.70 inches across area deserts, and 0.70 to 1 inch across area mountains.
Excessive runoff from the precipitation may lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas. Residents in susceptible locations are urged to remain alert for changing conditions.
