Flood Watch Issued for Portions of Southeast North Carolina and Northeast South Carolina

October 10, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina, has issued a Flood Watch from 11:00 AM EDT Saturday through 11:00 AM EDT Sunday. Heavy rainfall associated with tropical moisture could cause flash flooding across several coastal and inland areas.

The alert was issued at 2:52 AM EDT on October 10 by NWS Wilmington NC. The affected region in southeast North Carolina includes Coastal Brunswick, Coastal New Hanover, Coastal Pender, Columbus, Inland Brunswick, Inland New Hanover, and Inland Pender. In northeast South Carolina, the watch covers Central Horry, Coastal Georgetown, Coastal Horry, Inland Georgetown, and Northern Horry.

Tropical moisture is expected to spread over the area from Saturday through Sunday, bringing showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall at times. Forecasts indicate rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches, with isolated locations potentially receiving up to 8 inches.

Excessive runoff generated by the rainfall could lead to the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations.

The National Weather Service advises individuals in the affected areas to exercise heightened awareness, particularly after dark, as flood hazards are significantly more difficult to see at night.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
• Avoid low-lying and flood-prone locations such as rivers, creeks, and streams.
