The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Flood Watch for parts of Southwest California through 8:00 PM PDT on October 11. Remnants of Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel are bringing periods of moderate to heavy rainfall to the region.
The Flood Watch covers a wide portion of Southwest California, including San Diego County coastal areas, inland valleys, mountains, and deserts. Additional affected areas include the Riverside County mountains and deserts, San Bernardino County mountains, Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Coachella Valley, and San Gorgonio Pass near Banning.
Weather forecasts indicate that the heaviest rainfall is most likely through early Sunday afternoon before rain tapers off from south to north today. Maximum hourly rainfall rates are projected at 0.50 to 0.60 inches for the San Diego coast and valleys, 0.50 to 0.70 inches across area deserts, and 0.70 to 1 inch in mountain areas. Lingering lighter showers are expected to continue into Monday.
Excessive runoff from this rainfall may result in the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or flood-prone locations throughout the impacted region.
