Flood Watch Issued for Portions of Virginia and North Carolina

November 6, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 1 min read

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Virginia, has issued a Flood Watch for multiple areas in northeast North Carolina and Virginia until 8 PM EST this evening.

A Flood Watch has been issued due to the possibility of flooding caused by excessive rainfall. The watch remains in effect until 8 PM EST on November 6, 2026.

Affected areas in northeast North Carolina include Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Western Currituck. In Virginia, the affected areas include Chesapeake, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, Newport News, Norfolk, Northampton, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk, Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach, and York.

A cold front moving through the region could cause training storms that produce heavy rainfall. Rainfall totals may reach two to four inches in localized areas, leading to excessive runoff.

This runoff may result in the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Additionally, storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.
