Flood Watch Issued for South Central Arizona

The National Weather Service in Phoenix, Arizona, has issued a Flood Watch for portions of south central Arizona effective until 5:00 AM MST on Monday, August 31, 2026.

A Flood Watch was issued on August 30 at 7:35 PM MST by NWS Phoenix, AZ, indicating that flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible across the region.

The affected areas include the Aguila Valley, Northwest Valley, Tonopah Desert, Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, New River Mesa, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, Rio Verde/Salt River, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and the Southeast Valley/Queen Creek, among other locations.

According to the NWS, ample moisture and atmospheric instability will combine with a weather system positioned over western portions of the region to promote scattered thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall into the overnight hours. Training of storms could result in localized rainfall amounts exceeding two inches within the watch area.

Excessive runoff from these storms may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations until the watch expires at 5:00 AM MST Monday.
