October 20, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 1 min read

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Flood Watch for portions of south central Arizona, effective from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon.

A Flood Watch is in effect due to the potential for flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall. The watch was issued on October 20 at 12:04 AM MST and remains in effect until October 22 at 5:00 PM MST.

A strong weather system affecting the region is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday evening through Thursday afternoon. Moderate to heavy rainfall, with localized rates reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour at times, is possible.

Affected areas include the Aguila Valley, Northwest Valley, Tonopah Desert, Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, Deer Valley, Central Phoenix, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, Southeast Valley/Queen Creek, Northwest Pinal County, and West Pinal.

Excessive runoff from the rainfall may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
