Flood Watch Issued for Southeast Texas Due to Tropical Storm Edouard
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for several counties in southeast Texas, effective from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening, September 2. Heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Edouard presents a high risk of life-threatening flash flooding in the region.
The affected area covers multiple locations in southeast Texas, including Brazos, Chambers, Coastal Harris, Grimes, Houston, Inland Harris, Madison, Montgomery, Northern Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Southern Liberty, Trinity, Walker, and Waller. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to begin as early as Wednesday morning and continue through the evening hours.
Forecasters expect widespread rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated totals reaching up to 10 to 15 inches, particularly along and east of Interstate 45. Rainfall rates in the heaviest downpours could exceed 3 to 4 inches per hour, which is likely to trigger flash flooding in urban and highly vulnerable areas.
This excessive runoff may lead to the flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying or poor-drainage locations. The National Weather Service warns that there is an increased danger to lives and property, with considerable flash flooding possible across the watch area.
