High Wind Warning Issued for Coastal Delaware and New Jersey

September 25, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a High Wind Warning for coastal areas of Delaware and New Jersey, effective from 6:00 PM EDT on September 25 until 6:00 AM EDT on September 27. The warning follows a Wind Advisory that remains active until Friday evening.

The affected areas include Delaware Beaches County in Delaware, as well as Eastern Monmouth, Atlantic Coastal Cape May, Coastal Atlantic, and Coastal Ocean counties in New Jersey.

During the initial Wind Advisory period, which runs until 6:00 PM EDT on September 25, northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected, with gusts up to 45 mph. Once the High Wind Warning begins at 6:00 PM, conditions are expected to escalate to north winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service warns that these damaging winds will likely blow down trees and power lines, which may cause power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Depending on the track of the storm, strong winds may continue into Sunday.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.
• Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating high-profile vehicles.
