The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles/Oxnard, California, issued the warning on September 8 at 10:49 AM PDT. The alert takes effect at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, September 9, and runs through 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, September 10.
Temperatures across the region are forecast to reach between 88 and 108 degrees. Humid conditions will increase discomfort, with heat expected to peak on Wednesday for most areas. Temperatures along the Santa Barbara South Coast are likely to peak on Thursday.
Locations covered by the warning include Calabasas, Agoura Hills, the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County beaches and inland areas, Downtown Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, Malibu Coast, Palos Verdes Hills, and the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area. The warning also covers Cuyama Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Southern Salinas Valley, Santa Lucia Mountains, and multiple coastal, inland, and mountain areas across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
The National Weather Service cautions that extreme heat events significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
