The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch and a Heat Advisory for coastal and island areas of Southern California, with temperatures expected to reach up to 100 degrees.
The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for several coastal regions in Southern California. The watch is scheduled to take effect from Tuesday morning, August 25, through Friday evening, August 28, at 8:00 PM PDT. Prior to the watch, a Heat Advisory will be in place from 10:00 AM Sunday to 10:00 AM PDT Tuesday.
During the Heat Advisory period, temperatures of up to 94 degrees are expected. The subsequent Extreme Heat Watch brings the possibility of dangerously hot conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees.
The affected areas include Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, the Malibu Coast, Palos Verdes Hills, Los Angeles County Beaches, and the Los Angeles County Inland Coast including Downtown Los Angeles. The watch also covers the Santa Barbara County Southwestern and Southeastern Coasts, Ventura County Beaches, and the Ventura County Inland Coast.
According to the National Weather Service, heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. The forecast hot temperatures present a risk of causing heat illnesses for those in the affected regions.
