NWS Honolulu Issues Flood Watch for Hawaii Due to Tropical Cyclone Lala
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for several Hawaiian islands due to expected heavy rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Lala. The watch covers Kauai, Niihau, and Oahu from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.

Heavy rain is scheduled to affect the Big Island and Maui County from Thursday evening through Sunday. For Kauai, Niihau, and Oahu, periods of heavy rain and the active Flood Watch period will begin Saturday evening and extend through late Sunday night, ending at 6:00 AM HST on August 17.
Forecasts indicate widespread rainfall amounts between 4 and 6 inches, with localized totals reaching up to 8 inches. The highest rainfall amounts are projected to occur over windward areas of the islands.
Potential impacts include the closure of flood-prone roads and low-lying areas due to elevated runoff and overflowing streams. Urban areas face risks of rapid runoff, which may result in more significant flooding and property damage.
