NWS Honolulu Issues Flood Watch for Kauai, Niihau, and Oahu
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Watch for Kauai, Niihau, and Oahu from Saturday evening through late Sunday night due to Tropical Cyclone Lala.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued the Flood Watch on August 14 at 2:44 PM HST, remaining in effect until August 17 at 6:00 AM HST. Tropical Cyclone Lala is expected to bring heavy rain to the Big Island and Maui County from this evening through Sunday, and to Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.
Current forecasts indicate rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches across the watch areas, with localized amounts reaching up to 8 inches. The highest rainfall amounts are anticipated over windward sections.
Excessive rainfall may lead to flash flooding. Runoff and overflowing streams may cause closures of flood-prone roads and low-lying areas, while rapid runoff in urban areas could cause significant flooding and property damage.
The alert covers Niihau, all regions of Kauai, and Oahu, including Central Oahu, Honolulu Metro, East Honolulu, Ewa Plain, Oahu North Shore, Olomana, and the Koolau and Waianae areas.
