NWS Honolulu Issues Tropical Storm Warning for Honolulu Metro
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a tropical storm warning for the Honolulu Metro area, affecting locations including Salt Lake, Honolulu, and Kaimuki.
The warning was issued on September 7, 2026, at 2:02 PM HST. The latest local forecast calls for winds below tropical storm force, with a peak wind forecast of 20 to 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph.
Despite the current wind forecast, uncertainty in track, size, and intensity indicates a potential for winds ranging from 39 to 57 mph. Officials advise residents to plan for hazardous wind of equivalent tropical storm force and to prepare for limited wind damage.
Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, along with unsecured lightweight objects being blown about. Many large tree limbs may be broken off, with a few trees snapped or uprooted, and some fences and roadway signs blown over.
Additional impacts may involve a few roads becoming impassable from debris, hazardous driving conditions on bridges and elevated roadways, and scattered power and communications outages. There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding.
