NWS Issues Coastal Flood Warning for Coastal Duval County

October 24, 2026 · wweather1 editorial · 2 min read

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Coastal Duval County, expecting significant coastal flooding from Saturday morning through Monday evening.

The National Weather Service Jacksonville FL issued the Coastal Flood Warning at 7:33 PM EDT on October 23. The warning is in effect from 5:00 AM Saturday, October 24, until 8:00 PM EDT Monday, October 26. Prior to the warning taking effect, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains active until 5:00 AM Saturday for minor coastal flooding.

Multiple marine hazards will accompany the event. A High Surf Advisory is scheduled from 8:00 AM Saturday to 8:00 PM EDT Monday, bringing large breaking waves of 7 to 11 feet. Additionally, a High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Monday evening.

The anticipated flooding may result in the closure of numerous roads. Low-lying property—including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure—is expected to be inundated, alongside shoreline and localized beach erosion.

Water conditions will be dangerous for swimming and surfing. Rip currents present during this alert period are strong enough to sweep even experienced swimmers into deeper water away from the shore.

Why it is dangerous and what to do

⚠️ Safety
• Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
• Do not drive around barricades or through floodwater of unknown depth.
• Avoid entering the water if you are an inexperienced swimmer, and always swim near a lifeguard.
• If caught in a rip current, relax, float, and swim parallel to the shoreline without swimming against the current.
