NWS Issues Extreme Heat Warning for Parts of Arizona, California, and Nevada
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for portions of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada. Dangerously hot late-season conditions are expected on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM PDT.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas office initially issued the alert on September 8 at 3:15 PM PDT for an extreme heat event occurring on Thursday, September 10, 2026. High temperatures are forecast to reach unseasonably high levels across multiple desert valleys and regions.
Forecasted temperatures include highs between 112 and 116 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley and the Colorado River Valley. Highs between 105 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit are expected in the Las Vegas Valley, Moapa Valley, and Pahrump Valley.
The affected areas encompass Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, the Arizona and Nevada sides of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, the Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, Cadiz Basin, the San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, Northeast Clark County, Western Clark and Southern Nye County, and the Las Vegas Valley.
Weather authorities warn that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat conditions. Residents and visitors across the regional warning area are encouraged to monitor forecasts and take necessary precautions during the period of high heat.
