NWS Issues Extreme Heat Warning for Phoenix Metropolitan Area Through August 29
The National Weather Service in Phoenix, Arizona, has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Phoenix metropolitan area, in effect from August 25 at 1:42 AM MST until August 29 at 8:00 PM MST.
Dangerously hot conditions are forecast for the region, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach between 106 and 116 degrees. The weather service warns that these conditions pose a Major to Extreme Heat Risk.
The warning covers multiple communities throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, including Central Phoenix, Deer Valley, Northwest Valley, Buckeye/Avondale, North Phoenix/Glendale, Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, East Valley, South Mountain/Ahwatukee, and Southeast Valley/Queen Creek.
Officials caution that the sustained high temperatures will lead to an increase in heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency that can result in death.
