NWS Issues Extreme Heat Warning for Portions of Arizona, California, and Nevada
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of northwest Arizona, southeast California, and southern Nevada, remaining in effect until August 28 at 8:00 PM PDT. Dangerously hot conditions are expected through the work week.
The warning was issued by NWS Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 24 at 7:24 AM PDT. The affected areas include Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, the Arizona sides of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave, the Hualapai Mountains, Northwest Deserts, Death Valley National Park, the Western and Eastern Mojave Deserts including the Mojave National Preserve, the Morongo Basin, the Cadiz Basin, and the San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley.
Temperatures are expected to reach up to 115 to 118 degrees across Death Valley and the Colorado River Valley, and up to 108 to 112 degrees across Moapa Valley, the Las Vegas Valley, the Pahrump Valley, and the Morongo Valley. Temperatures are anticipated to reach up to 90 to 95 degrees in the Hualapai Mountains. Additionally, overnight lows will range in the upper-80s to low-90s for desert valleys.
According to the National Weather Service, heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Residents in the affected regions are advised to monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for ongoing updates as the weather event persists through Friday evening.
