An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the coastal areas of San Diego County from Friday, October 2, through Thursday, October 8. Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 100 degrees in some coastal terrain, bringing a significant risk of heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego, California, issued the warning on October 1 at 8:59 PM PDT. The warning will be in effect starting at 10:00 AM PDT on Friday, October 2, and is scheduled to remain in place until 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected during this period. High temperatures will range from the mid 80s to lower 90s near the coast, and from the mid 90s to around 100 degrees for the mesas and other higher coastal terrain. Nighttime temperatures will offer little relief, remaining very warm with lows mostly in the lower to mid 70s.
According to the National Weather Service, heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Additionally, officials warn that vehicle interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes, making it extremely dangerous to leave children or pets unattended in cars.
