NWS Issues Fire Weather Watch for Portions of Nevada
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Fire Weather Watch for parts of southern and central Nevada from Saturday morning through Saturday evening. High winds and low humidity are expected to create elevated fire danger.
The Fire Weather Watch was issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas, NV on September 11 at 3:03 AM PDT. The alert is scheduled to take effect on Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 AM PDT and run through September 13 at 12:00 AM PDT.
The watch covers Nevada Fire Weather Zones 460, 462, 463, 464, and 465. Specific locations included in the warning area are Esmeralda and Nye County Deserts/CNC Dispatch, Nye County Deserts/Las Vegas Dispatch, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains, and Clark and SW Lincoln County Deserts/Las Vegas Dispatch.
Forecasted atmospheric conditions include south winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph. Relative humidity levels in the affected zones are expected to fall between 5 and 20 percent.
The National Weather Service warns that any fires that start during these conditions will spread rapidly. Consequently, outdoor burning is not recommended while the watch remains active.
